‘Just waiting for electricity’ (Stamford Advocate)

It was a winter hurricane. For three days the rain came in torrents and the wind raged, sometimes at 65 mph. Roots loosened in the wet ground and, all over the city, trees fell onto power lines. The sky over downtown Stamford lit up white with orange sparks as electrical transformers exploded.
