Connecticut Light & Power restored electricity to all but 40 Stamford residents as of Friday, ending a tumultuous and frustrating week following Saturday's violent storm.
It was a winter hurricane. For three days the rain came in torrents and the wind raged, sometimes at 65 mph. Roots loosened in the wet ground and, all over the city, trees fell onto power lines. The sky over downtown Stamford lit up white with orange sparks as electrical transformers exploded.

Round objects are an indelible part of the holidays, from wreaths and tree decorations to the St. Nicholas-esque shape that many of us take on after all those sweets and treats.
Egg nog is the most storied of holiday drinks. Easy to see why. It's creamy rich, sloshed with dark rum, brandy or whiskey and warmed with spices usually found sprinkled on cookies.
