Thanks to a federal appliance rebate program that starts Friday and continues for about 10 days, shoppers can get a 15 percent discount at the cash register if they buy a new, Energy Star-qualified refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, clothes washer or room air-conditioner for their home.
