A woman with connections to convicted animal abuser Cynthia Gudger was arrested Monday on animal abuse charges of her own. Kim Maggio, 49, of Frazier Park was evicted from her home on Elm Trail just before 10 a.m. Monday as a result of a bank foreclosure, a Kern County Sheriff's Department report stated.

The skies around Bakersfield dropped a quick burst of rain Tuesday, but there weren't as many problems as Monday when more than three times as much rain fell. However, the California Highway Patrol paced traffic on the Grapevine for more than an hour in the early afternoon because of snow. A couple of other highways were closed due to flooding, Caltrans reported.
